Ukraine has begun testing the new DESNA vehicle, an 8-ton 4×4 tactical armored vehicle developed by UkrArmoTech to meet the immediate needs of the battlefield.
The prototype was created as a direct response to frontline demands, combining enhanced protection, high mobility, and simplified maintenance solutions based on models already produced by the company.
The DESNA features a modular design, permanent all-wheel drive, and optimized weight distribution between the axles, allowing it to operate in difficult terrains. Inspired by references such as the Arquus Sherpa and the KIA Raycolt KLTV, the vehicle underwent studies of platforms used by armies from various countries, including equipment used by the enemy itself, with the goal of creating a more durable system suitable for continuous combat use.
Currently in the final phase of coding tests, the armored vehicle is seen as a domestic alternative to expand Ukraine’s military transport capabilities, which currently relies heavily on vehicles supplied by partners.
If approved, the DESNA vehicle could go into mass production and become part of Ukraine’s effort to strengthen its defense industry during the war.
